Insights from Doug: Why I Created Empowered Leadership
While I was in the midst of making the decision to sell my former company, I asked my Renaissance Executive Forum peer group members what I should do if I sold. The overwhelming answer from these trusted advisors, many of whom have been with me for over a decade, was to do what I had done with them, which was to mentor and coach entrepreneurs and CEOs. Thus, Empowered Leadership was formed.
The idea is to mentor people with the same passion and energy as I have done for the past 29 years as a business owner. To help others navigate through the obstacles, hurdles, pitfalls, and the false sense of security that can incubate in your head when success is achieved.
One of the ways to communicate the core values of Empowered Leadership is through blog posts. I hope many of you will walk with me through this new journey. We will learn, experience, and grow together.
Empowered Leadership was formed for people like yourself. Many of us either become so involved with our companies that we tend to forget to work ON the company rather than IN the company. Many have been CEOs for a long period of time, which has insulated us from the pulse of the organization, making us “bubble wrapped” by senior management teams with the "yes" answers we want to hear.
